Hey all,

Finals have come and gone. Having 5 finals really took a toll on me as the semester dwindled down. Also, it was relieving to get my final projects accomplished and homework turned in. I feel that I really got a lot out of this semester, seeing as though all my classes pertained to my major. It was nice not to be loaded up on core classes, and actually feel that my classes were beneficial for my future career. It was a great semester.

It is always a little bittersweet leaving Rockhurst for 6 weeks. I find it hard to pack up my things the moment I'm done with finals and head home. But it is always nice to get back to the family and relax a bit. This year, I came home to one of the biggest snowstorms in years in Omaha. They had 3 snow days here in a row! That hasn't happened in quite some time. I hope it will stick around for Christmas, which is looking promising.

But before I left for home, my girlfriends all got together for a little "ugly Christmas sweater" gathering. Check out our sweaters!

Happy Holidays everyone! :)

Hey all!

I hope everyone is having a good November. This time of the semester always seems to be so busy! I feel that I have been doing so much school work lately and it's driving my nuts! I need a break, and luckily Thanksgiving break is here in just a few days. Tomorrow I have two big tests in Anatomy and Physiology and Human Communication Disorders. After that, I am done for break! I am still kind of bummed though that we haven't seen any snow yet. We have been having some freezing rain that I was hoping would turn to snow. Although I am not a big fan of cold weather, I do love a good snow fall. So if not here, I hope Omaha will deliver me some snow!

Last week, the residence life put on a girls night in down at the townhouses. It was a lot of fun! A makeup artist from MAC come down and taught us a few make up tricks. Then, she did all the girls makeup! It was a fun time, and we even got to take home an eyeshadow. I was really excited about that! It was a fun way of getting the girls in the townhouses together.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving break. Once we get back we only have one more week of classes and then finals start! So, break is not going to be all relaxing for me. I have to work on a few last minute projects that are due at the end of the semester. But overall, I can't wait to get home!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone!

I am currently spending my Halloween in the great state of Kentucky. Our soccer team made it to the conference tournament and our first game is vs. Northern Kentucky tomorrow at noon. Hopefully we can win to continue our season. If not, our season will end tomorrow.
Last weekend we were in Wisconsin and Chicago. It was a lot of fun because we spent time on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. It is a street of dreams for all those shopaholics like myself. It is a mile long strip that has almost every store you can think of! After that, we went to a nice dinner right off Michigan Ave. Here are some pictures from our trip.

I am looking forward to November because it means we just have one more month of school until our long Christmas break. Once Thanksgiving is over, finals start a few weeks after. I have five finals coming up in December that are going to be pretty challenging. But before finals, I have a lot of projects to complete. For my language Acquisition class, I had to collect a speech sample from a four year old and translate the sample. I did the sample on my roommates godson, Noah. He was really cute and not shy at all so it made my job a lot easier! It was really enjoyable! Once I complete the rest of my projects, I will feel a lot less stressed.

Well, I hope everyone enjoys their Halloween weekend!

Breast Cancer Awareness

Hey all,

This week at school, one of the sororities here on campus, ZTA, is helping to raise money for breast cancer awareness. This always hits home to me because my grandmother suffered with this, and I always appreciate all the effort everyone puts forth to raise money and donate to this cause. Earlier this week, they sponsored the Big Man on Campus, in which several male students participated. It is like a beauty pageant for men, in which they modeled formal wear, performed a special talent and answered a tough question. My roommate's brother actually ended up winning and he's only a freshman (congrats John!)

Tonight, we have our second to last home soccer game. For the game, we are wearing pink jerseys which the athletic department is providing for us in recognition of breast cancer awareness! There are also raffles going on, and I believe there is even a bbq or bake sale taking place during the game. I am really excited because we have never done anything like this before. Hopefully we can pull off the win in pink, and take that momentum with us to Sunday for senior day. I can't believe it is the seniors last home weekend! I am going to miss them all so much and it will definitely be different without them.

Hello everyone!

My schedule has been pretty hectic. Last weekend, our soccer team was in St. Louis. I love when we have our St. Louis trip because over half of our team is from there, so we are able to split up and stay at houses. It makes it more homey then staying in a hotel. I am excited because this coming weekend we are finally taking our first, long roadtrip. We are heading to Kentucky to play Bellarmine and Northern Kentucky. They are ranked right above us in our conference so hopefully we can pull out a couple wins. It is amazing to me how fast our season is going. We are already down to our last weekend at home for conference play.

Also, I cannot believe that it is already the first week in October! This means that midterms are here! I have two big midterms, which I am anxious to get over with because then fall break will set in. I am looking forward to having a break from school, but I know I will use that time to catch up on homework and sleep. I have many projects that are due toward the end of the semester so I will utilize this break and get started on them!

Once fall break hits, this means that the Nebraska-Mizzou football game will be coming up. It is taking place on this Thursday night. Since there are a lot of Rockhurst students from Nebraska and Missouri, it makes for a great rivarly here at school. Around campus, you will notice everyone wearing their spirit wear for their favorite team. Being a die hard Nebraska fan, I am hoping that we will get revenge on Missouri this year and we will come out with a victory! If not, I am sure I will be hearing about it for the rest of the season from the Mizzou fans. Let's go huskers!

This past week at Rockhurst has been very entertaining. The whole week was dedicated to getting everything set up for Rockhurst day, in which they invite all alumni, parents, and families to come in and celebrate. It was also family weekend so many families make it a point to come down and spend time here. Friday night kicked off the festivities. There was a big white tent with tables for families to sit down and eat. They had big blow up stations for children to jump in. Also, there was a man on stilts that caught the attention of many young children. It was a great time seeing all the families and children because we are just used to seeing college students around campus! I was lucky enough to have my family come up as well. They stayed until Sunday and watched both of my soccer games. We went 1-1 this weekend, but we hope to capture two wins on the road this coming weekend!

In other exciting news, my intramural softball team made it to the playoffs and we won our first playoff game! This is really exciting for us because we have never made it this far. Tonight we play a very tough team though so we are looking forward to that game. If we lose, we are done. So we really hope that we can pull off the big win! We will see if the weather holds up for us tonight, because it is supposed to rain all day and night. Hopefully we will be able to get the game in and come out with a victory!

Over the past weekend, my family came down for our soccer game. I was so excited to see my niece, Ella, who is with me in this picture. It's hard to see, but I gave her the shirt she is wearing which says "Rockhurst University: Born to be a hawk." She looks so cute in the shirt and it fits her great! I was surprised that she was able to stay awake for most of the game because it was at 7 p.m. But she was a great little cheerleader and made me so happy that she came down!

This past week was pretty normal school week. I had a few quizzes and one test. The majority of my classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays so sometimes it becomes overwhelming when quizzes and tests overlap with each other. It just takes a little bit of time management but I am able to keep everything straight!

Also this week was the start of intramural softball. I have been part of the same team for the past 3 years and this year is looking promising for us! Although we dropped our first game by one run, we look the best we ever have. This year all teams make the playoffs which is new and good because we have never been fortunate to make it. Our next game is this coming Wednesday and we are hoping to pull off the win. I'll post some team pictures next time! We seriously count down the days until intramural softball because it truly is a lot of fun. Even though we aren't the best, it is still fun to get out there with friends and still be competitive.

Well I hope everyone enjoys their labor day weekend! School seems empty this weekend because a lot of people go home for the long weekend. I am looking forward to Monday for having a day off of school and soccer. It will be a good day to catch up on homework, laundry, and just relax!

Take care,
Abby

I can't believe how quickly the last week has gone! I always look forward to starting school because it puts me back into a good routine. Even though homework and tests are not always so fun, it keeps me busy and on a set schedule. I am enjoying my classes so far, but I know it will become stressful. The courses I am taking this semester are Human Communication Disorders, Language Acquisition, Transcription phonetics, Anatomy & Physiology for Speech, Language, and Hearing, and Developmental Psychology. So basically a lot of CSD (Communciaton Sciences and Disorders) classes! Because of the fact that I just changed my major from Pre-Physical Therapy to Pre-Speech Pathology last semester, I am a little behind but should be able to squeeze all the necessary classes in to graduate on time!

My soccer team played two games this past week, in which we went 1-1. Those games were only exhibition games so they don't count in our conference record. Our first season game is this Friday night at 7 pm vs Emporia St. I am so excited because my niece, who is 5 months old, is coming down for the game and I can't wait to see her! I spent all summer with her and it is so hard being away. So she will be there cheering us on if she can stay awake that late!

Other than that, the weekend went by pretty quickly. I feel like that is always the case though! On Friday night, we went out to dinner at Baja 600 for my roommate Amanda's birthday. That restaurant has such a fun atmosphere and great food as well!

Amanda opening her gifts!
All the roommates before the birthday dinner at our townhouse!

Have a great rest of the week!

Getting Settled In!

Hello,

My name is Abby and I am a new blogger this year! I am so excited to get my blogs up and running. I have been so busy this first week and a half of school, with getting settled into my new townhouse, having soccer practice, and starting school. But finally things are coming together and I feel a little more at ease. My roommate Lauren and I were the first ones out of 6 girls to move in to our townhouse here on campus. We are both on the soccer team and had 2-3 practices a day for the first week! We have a big game tomorrow night against UMKC here at Rockhurst at 7 pm. Everyone should come if they can :)
You can view our schedule here www.rockhurst.edu/ru_athletics/w_varsity/soccer/schedule/2009schedule.asp

My classes have been off to a great start as well. Last semester I switched majors from Pre-Physical Therapy to Pre-Speech Pathology. I am so happy with my decision and can already tell I am going to enjoy my classes this semester. I am taking 18 credit hours this semester, which is the most I have taken so far. But I am excited that I am finally getting into the classes pertaining to my major! I can tell it is going to be a busy semester already! I am sure you all will be hearing more about it.

Until next time,
-Abby
